iX-led goes horticulture

The challenge: The right light for plants.

A solution for the right light for plants was sought for a small series. The spectrum needed to be variable in order to optimally accompany the various growth phases. The Photophyll™ Select LEDs specially developed by CREE for horticulture were used as the basis. The Photophyll™ Select LEDs have an advanced spectrum with blue and green light output that is tailored to applications in horticulture. LEDs in Photo Red and Far Red have been added to fill out the spectrum in the red range.

Our Varius L28 W24 is equipped with:
Channel 1: 24x MidPower LED Photophyll Select GBR 3
Channel 2: 6x MidPower LED Photophyll Select GBR 3
12x Midpower LED Photo Red
6x Midpower LED Far Red

The following ratios can now be set by dimming the two channels:
Red : Far Red 1.0 to 2.9
Red : Blue 1.3 to 2.9

The ratio of Red to Far Red influences, among other things, the growth lengths and the time to flowering. The ratio of Red to Blue in turn has an influence on biomass and colouring. The evaluation of the results was carried out by the experts at the horticultural facility and was in line with the expectations. The result is a cost-effective, fast and targeted solution for horticulture.

Longboard with a system solution

Challenge accepted!

The challenge: developing a perfect system solution with high standards.

The requirements: A flat luminaire. 25 cm wide, just under 1.5 m long. The task was to illuminate this large area. So we took on this demanding challenge. First solution approach - several LED modules. However, it had to be something special: no visible subdivisions and a high level of reliability by reducing the number of contacts. So we developed an LED module with a width of 200 mm, a length of 1480 mm and almost 400 LEDs.

We planned the openings in the circuit board so that suitable screws and other intended fixings could be easily fitted to the luminaire. The advantage? The luminaire was very easy to install. We also analysed the operating parameters of the driver and adapted the wiring of the LEDs perfectly to them. And the appearance? We attached great importance to an even spacing in the x and y directions. The challenge? - The many openings.

All in all, this results in a perfect system solution: simple installation, optimised operation and an outstanding appearance.

m.a.l. LED-Box

The challenge: developing a ready-made solution with an elegant design to bring the colour effect of the LEDs closer.

This is how we solved it: Our team first designed a suitable shape and selected the highest quality magnetic box from various materials. This was followed by the designs for the appropriate layout. Once the layout had been finalised, the production department printed the PCBs using the CIE standard colour system. The printed circuit board was fitted with 32 different LEDs and the circuit was provided with a boost function. Cables and power sources were soldered. We milled the cover of the circuit board from ESD-compatible foam ourselves.

The end result: a great tool with which you can see the effect of the LEDs very closely and without any unpleasant side effects!
